NAMPO 2026 provided an excellent opportunity for us to build trust with farmers. Our main focus was introducing HerdTrack as a long-term partner that offers sustainable growth, reliable support and practical solutions for livestock producers.
Benitta Erlank, our sales representative, shares some insights from the week…
How was HerdTrack’s NAMPO 2026?
It was a highly successful week. We loved connecting with existing clients and meeting new farmers who stopped by our stand. Gaining firsthand feedback helped us better understand the day-to-day, practical needs on the farm. At the same time, we demonstrated how current technology can make farming simpler, more accurate and more profitable right now.
Key highlights for the HerdTrack team included:
- Connecting with new clients.
- Receiving valuable feedback from our existing user base.
- Identifying new ways for HerdTrack to support farmers even better.
What was the general feedback from visitors?
The response was overwhelmingly positive, especially regarding the pace of technological development and our competitive, realistic pricing. Visitors appreciated that HerdTrack offers practical solutions designed specifically from a farmer’s perspective. There was also immense interest in booking on-farm demonstrations to test the system in their own environments.
Was the stand busy?
We had a fantastic turnout and enjoyed building meaningful relationships with everyone who visited. It was also a great opportunity to network with training institutions, helping introduce the next generation of farmers to the role technology will play in the future of agriculture. Additionally, the event gave us valuable insight into upcoming industry trends and evolving needs.
What were the frequently asked questions from farmers?
Introducing new technology naturally brings questions about finding the right fit for specific farming setups. Here are five of the most common questions we received:
What is the difference between ultra-high frequency (UHF) and low frequency RFID?
The fundamental differences lie in read range and signal transmission speed. UHF RFID excels at long-range scanning and bulk scanning large numbers of animals simultaneously.
Can low frequency ear tags from other suppliers be used with HerdTrack scanners?
No. Each tag acts like a unique identity document for the animal and is recognised only by the specific system it is programmed for. Because our data is encrypted and our systems are custom-built for long-range UHF ear tags, third-party low frequency tags are not compatible.
Where are HerdTrack scanners manufactured?
Potchefstroom, though we support farmers nationwide. While some physical components are imported, all software programming and assembly happen locally on site at CFAM, a company renowned for world-class engineering systems.
What happens if the cellular network coverage is poor in my area?
Our SIM cards can be optimised for specific networks. Alternatively, we can install extended or directional antennas to boost signal strength.
What future developments is HerdTrack working on?
We have plenty of exciting projects in the pipeline. For now, our primary focus is rolling out the new products launched at NAMPO 2026. We are also busy exploring ways to integrate weighing scales directly into the HerdTrack ecosystem, allowing weight data to sync instantly with our software platform.
Which feature generated the most interest?
Farmers were particularly impressed by HerdTrack’s automated counting feature. It tackles one of the biggest daily headaches on a farm: inaccurate stock counts and pinpointing missing animals.
The automated notifications also drew a lot of attention, with farmers appreciating reminders for:
- Follow-up dosing schedules
- Gestation periods
- Internal livestock movements between camps or herds
The new handheld scanner, demonstrated live for the first time at the show, sparked plenty of excitement. It highlights how the platform adapts to different management styles.
Overview of our newly launched hardware…
The handheld scanner
Designed for active, on-the-go management. Farmers use it to count stock, look up specific animal histories, and log new data in the field. It also allows you to link medical treatments and vaccinations directly to an individual animal or herd profile.
The multi-antenna cattle scanner
A static unit installed at key thoroughfares like water troughs, gates, or handling races. It automatically scans large herds as they move through, giving you an accurate head count without interrupting daily farm flows.
The multi-antenna sheep scanner
Operating on the same principle as the cattle version, this scanner is tailored for sheep races and gates, allowing rapid, highly accurate monitoring of large flocks.
Every piece of hardware feeds data seamlessly into a single, unified software platform.
Solutions tailored to grow with farmers
No two operations are identical, which is why flexibility is built into our core philosophy. When new challenges pop up on the farm, we treat them as opportunities to innovate and refine our systems alongside you.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to every farmer and visitor who supported HerdTrack at NAMPO 2026. If you missed out or want to see it in action, we invite you to book an on-farm demonstration.
